Smith County Mentorship Program

About Us

We are a 501c3 Non- Profit Organization founded in 2021. We started out in 2016 as a volunteer support resource to families in Smith County Juvenile Court System. In 2018 we received a grant funded opportunity from Smith County General Sessions Court to develop the Smith County Mentorship Program . We currently offer services to or operate in partnerships with the Smith County Sheriffs Office, Smith County Juvenile Courts System, Smith County Schools System, TN Department of Children's Services, The Travis Manion Foundation, DFI- Digital Futures Initiatives, District Attorney's Office and Local Churches. All our Mentors are Heart Savers CPR Certified, Background Checked, Drug Tested, Fingerprinted,Reference Checked, Intensely Interviewed, and trained. We always Mentor in non familial pairs, as a 2 Mentor to 1 Mentee ratio or 2 Mentor to small group setting with safety and accountability in mind.

Johnny Ray Brown

SCMP Director


Johnny Ray has been a Youth Minister in our community for over 20 years at Carthage Full Gospel Church. He and his wife, Rebecca, reside in Carthage with their eight boys. He is also a school bus driver, I.T. sub-contractor and has helped develop and lead the Mentor Program. He has taken countless hours of training over the years from Trust Based Relationship Intervention from the Purvis Institute, He is a facilitator of TN Building Strong Brains, He is a Travis Manion Foundation trained mentor, He is a trained facilitator for Digital Futures Initiative Program, and TN Shield of Care Suicide Prevention to name a few. He had mentors himself as a young adult who helped make a difference in his life. It’s his hope to pass that on and pay it forward.

 Samantha Lee

 Lead Facilitator

Samantha has helped lead the mentorship program for the last two and a half years. Samantha has also had training in Trust Based Relationship Intervention from the Purvis Institute, Building Strong Brains, the Travis Manion foundation, and is currently working on being a facilitator for Digital Futures Initiative and TN Shield of Care Suicide Prevention Training. Samantha says that she truly feels like if she had been met with a close mentor, it would’ve made a world of difference in her high-school and young adult life.
